Released today at MWC 2018 the all-new Samsung Galaxy S9 is set to be a massive featuring some incredible, new and old features to make this the phone that is near perfect for the average consumer of both today and tomorrow
“The Camera. Reimagined.” The one line that Samsung has used, to sum up, their new flagship phone. But in personal opinion that undermines the device. The S9 will be a media machine powerhouse and the camera is just the start.
With a dual aperture lens system the S9 that supports F1.5 mode and F2.4 mode, the lens is able to automatically switch between the 2 modes to adapt to the different lighting environments to ensure you get a perfect shot whether it’s bright or dark, day or night. With the addition of multi-image processing, you can make images look sharper in the dark with astounding noise reduction to make sure each shot with the camera is as detailed and as good as can be.
In addition to the incredible imaging capabilities of the S9, it can also shoot super slow motion of up to a mind-blowing 960fps. It must be noted though it only supports HD resolution and is limited to 20 shots per video with approximately 0.2 seconds of recording and 6 seconds of playback for each shot. Samsung already had a powerful built-in video editing tool, however, this like most other features has been stepped-up a gear with the addition to be able to make GIF’s, add loops and music whilst being able to share it with friends and family or maybe even the world via a plethora of apps and different social media platforms.
All of this is a made possible by Samsungs memory stacked dual pixel sensor which we go into more detail with a full breakdown later on in the week so make sure you come back for that. The S9+ additionally features dual optical image stabilization commonly referred to as Dual OIS. This feature will not be available on the normal S9.
Like Marmite (vegemite to Australians) some people like it some people hate it, but Bixby has come a long way and is more useful than ever. With internet or mobile data on Bixby can be used for real-time translations by simply holding the camera up to the thing you want translating. With intelligent image recognition, you can get Bixby to even count calories in your food by just simply pointing your camera at the food you want to know about. At the moment I am very reluctant about Bixby Food as food can take a different shape, however, I assume that in the long run with AI learning Bixby will become quite smart on spotting and knowing about different types of food. Bixby Place can be used to locate different shops, cafes, restaurants, etc… to help guide you to the place you want to go or even new undiscovered places.
One of the big drawback to modern day mobile phones is the built-in speakers, it’s as if they want you to go out and by 3rd party audio hardware. Well, the S9 will feature Dolby Atmos you will hear the action crisper and louder on the stereo speakers tuned by AKG by the world-renowned Harman. They offer a pure sound that’s 1.4x more powerful than previous Galaxy phones. Dolby Atmos surrounds you with three-dimensional sound, putting you at the center of a theater-like experience.
Apple did it. Samsung owned it. Access your phone easily with convenient technology that combines face recognition and iris scan. When face recognition needs help, iris scan kicks in to verify you—and vice versa. So your phone can identify you even in low light. Open with a look, a tap, a pattern, or a PIN. There’s a wide range of options you can use to keep your phone locked until you want it.
